Coal is a gorgeous black male from a cross between Max and Little Miss. He has take some of the best traits from both his sire and dam's line and put them together into a really impressive fellow. He is moderate in size (so a little bigger than his sire and grandsire) and very much in proportion with himself. He and his littermates all have a strong drive to work stock. It is worth noting that Coal can get overzealous on ornery animals so you have to keep be vigilant when he is on smaller stock like goats. On the other hand, he is not afraid of getting a tough when he needs too.
Coal is very smart and attentive. Rose Marie adores his temperament because he is so easy to live with. While he is always up for a hike or trip across the fields, he is equally content to curl up in a corner of the living room and snooze. He is always a perfect gentleman in the house much like his grandsire - Char. Coal spent a bit of time by Rose Marie's bedside while she was recuperating from her knee surgery this past year. His sweet nature helped keep her spirits up when her recovering leg couldn't handle our more high-spirited companions (like Shae!).

Genetic Testing Results (tests conducted by Animal Genetics*):
Coal tested Normal/Normal. i.e. not a carrier, for the following mutations MDR1 (Ivermectin Sensitivity), Collie Eye Anomaly, Cone Degeneration, Canine Multifocal Retinopathy 1, Degenerative Myelopathy, and HSF-4 Hereditary Cataracts.
*Our focus has always been and will continue to be temperament and instinct consistent with the old working Aussies. However, we do our best to also maintain healthy lines. We try to sensibly use current technology to help in this goal. After all, healthy dogs are needed for farm work so we are starting to utilize some of the genetic testing options available. I get more than little confused prioritizing these tests and interpreting the results (did the genetic mutation common to Aussies actually get tested with all the crazy patent laws?) . Use the information if it helps.
